Bad Idea Dept.: Thought this would be a nice book to look at tonight in bed before going to sleep— but hol-ee shit.  It’s not really a “let’s curl up with a relaxing read before getting a good night’s sleep" book, whatever else you want to say about it. It’s not exactly a cup of warm milk. Goddamn… I’d really liked the Kerascoet Miss Don’t Touch Me books (these sort of murder mysteries set in an old-timey French whorehouse) but boy, this is really a meaner thing. Not just the stuff they show but all the violence that’s implied.  Boy…  Trigger warnings, basically… All of the trigger warnings…
Joe describes it as “Josh Simmons scripting a Studio Ghibli film… a black metal rendition of The Borrowers… High-toned entertainment for people whose idea of entertainment is upsetting depictions of ruined dreams peppered with gore and decay.”
