Doctor Who: That half-season went by quickly. I didn’t like the one with the dinosaurs— that one was just a mess, story-wise, not well executed, and I really didn’t like the murder-bit. Cowboy one I remember being decent but generic; I had to look up what that episode was about— it didn’t stick in the memory any, at all. The Slow Invasion one— I liked the slow invasion, until that ending which threw away any goodwill a person could feel towards it; I sure hope they’re not grooming Chibnall to replace Moffat; he’s not very good, at entertaining.
And then Angels Take Manhattan, I thought was terrific, good fun— though the problem with the Weeping Angels is anytime someone doesn’t look at them and the scene just goes on, it’s a huge buzzkill. The directors can’t seem to figure out to tell the actors, “Keep looking at the statues because that is the whole point of everything.” Which seems like a key thing to say to someone.
Besides that, I thought it was solid. Nice time… Though I never really 100% understand when Doctor Who waves his hands around and yells “Fixed Point in Time,” as a get-out-of-jail free card around the fact he has a TIME MACHINE and nothing that happens should matter. Other shows don’t do that, or at least I haven’t seen an episode in a few seasons but I assume there aren’t any episodes of How I Met Your Mother where Ted Mosby just yells out “COCAINE” and all rules of logic magically dissipate. Though… damn, maybe there should be. I would watch that show. Kids, did I ever tell you about the time I met your mother? I was on Cocaine. The end. Get me my smokes, Johnny.
