Huh, never knew this: Robert Armstrong and his friend Tom Iacino created and popularized the phrase couch potato— some minutae differs from site to site, but one version puts the date of invention of the phrase precisely at July 15, 1976, in the city of Pasadena, presumably from a trademark that they obtained for Couch Potato cartoons and merchandise. Armstrong also did Mickey Rat comics. It’s weird to think of anyone inventing the phrase couch potato let alone registering it. Also, it’s weird this is how I chose to spend the last ten minutes, so I’m going to turn off my g-damn internet now okay thanks.
