Project Diary 2/19/12: I felt like I reached a nice temporary stopping point on drawing, so I started a lettering/layout pass— putting down the text onto blank pages, guess-timating where the drawings are going to go. The first two chapters are done; fifteen-ish more to go— I guess issue four will be a 17 week thing, which is way, way too long, but.  But: feels like a decent-sized step forward…?  After the lettering pass is done, I start inserting the clip art into the blank areas— this is the first time I’m doing things this way; in my head, it’s all an experiment in modularity…?  So we’ll see if that works. So far, the results are extremely “decompressed” (not the right word at all, but). Anyways, after that, I do a page-by-page art-pass, then possibly get back to worrying about color, if I end up doing color. The writing is still all shitty, though— I’ve been getting caught up on How Did This Get Made, and it’s like… oh no, I’m making one of those!  I’m making Why on Earth Did You Make This…?  That should’ve been the title.  It’s just boring punctuated by dumb, or dumb punctuated by boring. For 17 weeks. Haha, whoops. (That image up there has nothing to do with anything— just messing around with Photoshop.  All evidence to the contrary, I’m regrettably not making an unauthorized sequel to Hardbodies, so)(My unauthorized sequel to Hardbodies would have Scotty the Hardbodies Guy forced to team up with the Rich Assholes to take down the Evil Dean of Party University. Why don’t movies have evil deans anymore?  Beats me…).
